Ladybird Infestation

Ladybirds and ladybugs come together to hibernate. This means that when the climate becomes cold you will find that ladybirds will seek out warm places. This could be underneath a rocky outcrop or in baby in a forest and potentially in grassy areas or under bark or between logs. But there is another place where ladybugs may come together and that is in your home. Homes are warm and the perfect place for groups of ladybirds to congregate.

Ladybirds are also strangely attracted to light colours, including the colour white. Many houses are painted white and so this, apart from the warmth, seems like a great target for ladybirds as a hibernation location.

Ladybirds released a pheromone which is like a perfume and this helps them find each other and attract other ladybugs or ladybirds. This is particularly powerful during the hibernation period, as insect pheromones are very powerful. They can detect others up to a quarter of a mile away sending out a signal saying they found a great place to stay for the winter.

This means that ultimately these ladybirds will be coming together in a swarm and this might well be the cause of your infestation or an infestation of ladybirds that you have seen somewhere.
